Traditional baskets

Cornish Baskets

I have an interest in historic baskets, the stories that they tell and how they are constructed, and so I have started to learn to make some of the baskets that were once part of life in this area of Cornwall.

I have currently learnt to make a cornish croust box...copied from an example in the Helston Folk Museum, a broccoli maund/crate, a dropper and caul/cowel copying originals and helped by Hilary Burns and makers Richard Moon and Graham Brown.  Some of these projects were helped with funding from the Walmsley Bursary awarded by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.

I  regularly teach students how to make a croust box and ran a course on the construction of a cawl in September 2012 to members of Basketmakers Souhwest. I can make these baskets to order. Contact me for a quote.
